Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is set to receive more heavy rainfall over the next two days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting very heavy rain in several parts of the state and issuing weather alerts across all districts.
An orange alert has been issued for 11 districts on Friday, while Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram remain under a yellow alert. Alerts have also been issued for all districts on Saturday, with orange alerts in nine districts except Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kannur and Kasaragod.

In view of the persistent rain, authorities have declared a holiday for educational institutions in Kottayam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Wayanad and Kasaragod districts on Friday. Educational institutions in Vadakara and Thamarassery taluks of Kozhikode district will also remain closed.
The holiday applies to all educational institutions, including professional colleges, anganwadis, tuition centres and religious study centres.
Meanwhile, the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has warned of possible coastal erosion due to high waves along parts of the Kerala coast. Waves measuring 2.8 to 3.6 metres are expected between 11.30 a.m. on Friday and 2.30 p.m. on Saturday along the coasts of Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts.
INCOIS has also forecast waves of 1.4 to 1.7 metres along the Kanyakumari coast from 5.30 a.m. on Saturday, raising concerns over sea erosion.
Authorities have advised fishermen and residents living in coastal areas to remain vigilant and avoid venturing into vulnerable coastal stretches. The weather department has also warned of isolated thunderstorms across Kerala during the day.
